Cheryl Gates McFadden, born on March 2, 1949, is an American actress and choreographer. She is known for her work as an actress under the name Gates McFadden and as a choreographer under Cheryl McFadden. McFadden portrayed Dr. Beverly Crusher in the television series Star Trek: The Next Generation, its subsequent films, and the sequel series Star Trek: Picard. Born in Akron, Ohio, she attended Brandeis University, earning a Bachelor of Arts (cum laude) in theatre arts. She furthered her studies in Paris, training at Jacques Lecoq's school of physical theatre. Throughout the 1970s, McFadden taught theater and dance at various universities and founded The New York Theatre Commotion. She is of Lithuanian descent on her mother's side.
