James Edmund Caan (March 26, 1940 – July 6, 2022) was an American actor known for his roles in various movies and TV shows. He gained recognition for his performance as Sonny Corleone in the iconic film The Godfather (1972), which earned him nominations for Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards and Golden Globes. Caan reprised his role in The Godfather Part II (1974). Additionally, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1978. Caan's career also included notable television appearances, such as his portrayal of Brian Piccolo in the 1971 TV movie Brian's Song, for which he received an Emmy nomination. He received further acclaim for his performances in films like The Gambler (1974), Funny Lady (1975), Cinderella Liberty (1973), Rollerball (1975), and A Bridge Too Far (1977).
