    Oliver Edward Nelson (June 4, 1932 – October 28, 1975) was an American jazz saxophonist, clarinetist, arranger, composer, and bandleader. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, he was from a musical family and began learning piano at age six and saxophone at age 11. Nelson gained recognition for his work as a bandleader and his contributions to the jazz scene in the 1960s. His 1961 album, The Blues and the Abstract Truth, is considered a significant recording of its time, with the composition 'Stolen Moments' being particularly acclaimed. Other notable albums include More Blues and the Abstract Truth (1964) and Sound Pieces (1966). Nelson's talent as both a performer and arranger made him a respected figure in the jazz community.
