Quincy Delight Jones Jr. is an American record producer, songwriter, composer, arranger, and film and television producer. Born on March 14, 1933, Jones has had a career spanning 72 years. He has won an impressive 28 Grammy Awards out of 80 nominations, and received a Grammy Legend Award in 1992. Jones first gained prominence in the 1950s as a jazz arranger and conductor before expanding into pop music and film scores. He has worked with various artists, producing hit records for Lesley Gore and collaborating with jazz legends Frank Sinatra and Count Basie. Jones made history as the first African American to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1968, and also received a nomination for Best Original Score in the same year for his work on the film In Cold Blood.
