Tony Bentley Biography
Tony Bentley, born on 20 December 1939 in Trent Vale, Stoke-on-Trent, is an English former footballer. He played in the Football League for Stoke City and Southend United. Bentley started his career with Stoke City, making his senior debut in the 1958-59 season. In the following season, he scored nine goals in 13 matches as a forward. However, he was sold to Southend United in July 1961, where manager Ted Fenton converted him into a full-back. Bentley played ten seasons for Southend, amassing 419 appearances. After leaving Southend, he played non-League football with Folkestone Town and Ashford Town (Kent).
