Woody Allen, born Heywood Allen on November 30, 1935, is an American filmmaker, actor, and comedian with a career spanning over six decades. Known for his prolific work, Allen has received numerous accolades including four Academy Awards, ten BAFTA Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and a Grammy Award. With 16 nominations, he holds the record for the most nominations for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. In addition to his film career, Allen began by writing material for television in the 1950s and performed as a stand-up comedian in Greenwich Village during the early 1960s. He has also published books of short stories and written humor pieces for The New Yorker. Two of his films have been included in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.
