Brian D. Johnson is a Canadian journalist, filmmaker, and author known for his work as an entertainment reporter and film critic for Maclean's. He started his career at Maclean's in 1985 and retired as a full-time staff member in 2014, although he continues as a freelance contributor. Johnson has also written for Rolling Stone and The Globe and Mail, earning three National Magazine Awards for his writing. He was a founding member and served as the president of the Toronto Film Critics Association from 2009 to 2017. In addition to his work in journalism, Johnson has authored books such as Marzipan Lies (1974) and Brave Films, Wild Nights: 25 Years of Festival Fever (2000). As a filmmaker, he has directed short films like Tell Me Everything (2006) and Yesno (2010), and his documentary film Al Purdy Was Here premiered at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival.
