What is BLUE EYE SAMURAI about?

Blue Eye Samurai is an animated action series set during the Edo period of Japan, a time characterized by rigid social orders and isolationist policies. The show follows the story of Mizu, a female bushi (warrior) of mixed heritage, who embarks on a quest for retribution against a group of white foreigners, including her own father, for their transgressions and her resultant societal exclusion. With her distinctive blue eyes marking her mixed-race identity, Mizu navigates a path of vengeance, taking on the guise of a male to avoid further discrimination in a period where women and foreigners faced significant prejudice. Mizu's complex emotional journey is further explored through her relationship with Ringo, an amiable, handless cook who becomes an unlikely companion despite her initial reluctance.
